秋叶 Autumn Leaves
Autumn Leaves is most often associated with Nat King Cole’s timeless rendition. About twenty years ago, however, Chunjiro came across a very different take on the song — an upbeat version by 高枫, a songwriter, music producer, and singer from Mainland China. He found it instantly striking. Instead of the familiar crooner’s ballad, 高枫’s arrangement leans into a driving, rhythmic groove.
His interpretation replaces gentle crooning with a more aggressive, belty vocal approach — moving closer to soul, with a hint of (mild) rock energy. That version stayed with Chunjiro for years.
So when he eventually penned Mandarin lyrics for Autumn Leaves, 高枫 naturally came to mind. Inspired by his take, Chunjiro set out to create a groovy version of his own — still rhythmic and forward-moving, though less funky than 高枫’s English rendition.
This Chinese lyric is singable to the original melody.
